Third Party Vendor Breach
ABOUT THE BREACH. Summit County recently learned that a third party vendor may have experienced a credit and debit card breach affecting individuals and/or parties that purchased tickets to the Summit County Fair Rodeo and Demolition Derby. We can confirm that 951 transactions may have been affected and have knowledge that other counties utilizing this vendor are experiencing a similar breach. Summit County apologizes for the situation and has terminated services with the suspected vendor. NO OTHER TICKETED EVENT PURCHASES WERE BREACHED, including tickets purchased for the 5K, Little Buckaroo Rodeo, Archery, or Fair vendors. The breach is believed to have occurred between May 1st and August 9th, 2014 for primarily online purchases to the Rodeo and Demolition Derby, and may include sales of in-person ticket purchases to those events.
WHAT CAN I DO? If you purchased a Demolition Derby or Rodeo ticket for the Summit County Fair using your credit or debit card, please contact your bank immediately. Summit County also encourages individuals affected to immediately review and monitor bank and credit card statements for evidence of unauthorized transactions.
IS IT SAFE TO USE SUMMIT COUNTY’S ONLINE PAYMENT SYSTEM? This breach was in no way linked to Summit County data systems. Outsourcing to a third party vendor was for the Summit County Fair only and should not discourage residents from using county online services now and in the future.
